When it’s time to get away for a vacation any time of year be sure to check out this North Myrtle Beach resort. We’ve stayed there in the past and loved it. Their pools, lazy river, and free DVDs from the kiosk kept the kids busy when they tired of the beach. Frankly I don’t see how anybody could tire of the beach and the ocean but kids today are something else entirely.

It’s held in downtown Myrtle Beach on May 19, 2012. Performers will include big names like Toby Mac, Third Day, Red, Jamie Grace, Royal Tailor, Emcee KJ-52 and Outcast BMX. Special guest speaker Nick Hall will also be at the event. The Beach Blast Christian Music Festival will take place between 8th and 9th Avenues North on Ocean Boulevard. I can’t wait to go!

Mortgage rates fell again last week with the 15 year fixed rate hitting another record low. Fifteen year mortgages are popular for people who are refinancing. The rate dipped to 3.11% down from the previous week’s 3.21% according to Freddie Mac’s weekly mortgage rate survey.

The rate on 30 year fixed rate mortgages also fell, though not quite as much, from a previous 3.98% to 3.88% last week. The record low for 30 year fixed rate mortgages was set back in February at 3.87%. Aphids are one of most resistant species of insects damaging home and farm gardens in the country along with leaf miners and thrips. It’s been discovered that the Acephate insecticide is an effective treatment against these very damaging insects. These insects can do such a vast array of damage that gardeners and farmers turn to Acephate insecticide and various other pesticides as a line of defense to protect their crops. Others turn to the enemy of many insects, the ladybug, and sometimes to row covers or insecticidal soap.

Aphids can reproduce without males but males do develop once in a while in order for the genes to change. Aphids are born pregnant and reproduce very quickly. Baby aphids are all female and they become an adult in a week.  Aphids are small and soft-bodied and also referred to as plant lice. You can find them in green, pink, yellow, black colors and even colorless. They grow up to 2 to 3 mm long and are shaped like a pear. They feed only on plants, where they gather in huge colonies on the leaves and on the stem. Aphids live everywhere in the world but are overly destructive in temperate regions.

Because they live inside a plant’s leaves, leaf miners are more difficult to eliminate. Spraying infected leaves with Acephate insecticide will eliminate leaf miners but it will take two or three repeated applications. This insecticide does not kill on contact and must be ingested by the insects over time.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that a significant number of people who die in crashes involve a distracted or inattentive driver. Driver distraction is increasing because drivers are multitasking while driving that jeopardizes trucker safety.
